Effective date: August 2026 · doranchae.com
Doranchae is an online Korean language school run by Kate HaeOk Shin Yu — one Korean teacher, not a company. You can reach us at hello@doranchae.com.
This policy covers doranchae.com and the Doranchae app — everything offered on this site. A separate class is taught privately to children in the teacher's own family. It is closed to anyone outside the family, there is no way to join it, and it is not covered by this policy.
We do not collect your email address, home address, phone number, real name, or payment information through the app. Because of this we cannot tell who you are, and we cannot recover a forgotten account name or PIN for you.
The speaking exercises use your microphone so you can hear yourself, but the recording stays in your browser and is discarded once you have played it back — it is never uploaded. The app never uses your camera.
We do not use your information for advertising, automated profiling, or any purpose beyond running the class.
Account data (the name you chose and your PIN) is stored in Supabase, a cloud database service with encryption at rest and in transit. Access is protected by Row-Level Security policies — anonymous visitors cannot read PINs or sensitive fields.
Learning progress is kept in your browser's localStorage. For enrolled students a copy is also stored in Supabase alongside the account it belongs to, under the same Row-Level Security protection — it can only be read by the teacher. Notes and writing are never copied; they remain in your browser.
These services have their own privacy policies. We do not control their data practices.
Doranchae is for ages 13 and up, and children under 13 cannot sign up for it. In any case an account holds only a name you invent and a PIN, and we have no way to tell how old you are. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account without a parent's knowledge, write to us and we will remove it.
If a younger child would like to learn here, a parent or guardian can give consent using the parental consent form, and we will create the account by hand. That form explains exactly what is kept for that child.
Because we hold nothing that identifies you, most of this you can do yourself, without asking us:
We cannot act on a request about a specific account, because we have no way to confirm it is yours — the same reason we cannot recover a lost PIN. Where a student was enrolled by a teacher who knows them personally, requests are handled directly with that student or their parent; see section 6.
If we make significant changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and post a notice on the message board inside the app.
